OTB Group takes center stage at Met Gala 2024 as celebrities shine in custom-made looks by Maison Margiela, Diesel, and Marni, following the dress code theme 'The Garden of Time' to celebrate the opening of Costume Institute exhibition 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'.
MAISON MARGIELA

John Galliano specially created an haute couture look for co-chair Zendaya composed of a sage lamé and organza bias-cut dress worn over a duchess satin corset. The dress features bands of hand-painted metallic crin, a drape and bow layered from aluminum material and iridescent organza, and a corsage hand-embroidered with natural motifs hand-painted in electric blue and emerald, green. Zendaya’s hand-painted plume-like veil and hat wrapped in stockings was created by Stephen Jones for Maison Margiela. And her custom-made Tabi pumps by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

The bespoke haute couture look for co-chair Bad Bunny composed of a midnight blue barathea wool smoking with black grosgrain lapels and red silk ribbon inseam lampasse, worn over a custom made black satin corset. He wore black leather gloves, black silk socks and a midnight blue foam hat enveloped in midnight blue stocking material as well as a black barathea wool flower bouquet. Bad Bunny’s black leather custom made Tabi boots worn with spats were created by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

The haute couture look for Gwendoline Christie composed of a black silk tulle opera coat with bands of black crinoline worn over a blood-orange-coloured silk velvet cut on the bias dress and a silk satin couture corset. She carried a blood-orange-coloured silk velvet Maison Margiela 5AC bag wrapped in laddered stockings and matching custom-made Tabi pumps by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

The haute couture look for Kim Kardashian composed of a pale grey thistle-washed boiled cashmere cardigan, a couture corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt in tooled silver metal evoking lace, flowers, leaves and sprigs interlinked with silver chain and floral motifs cut from mirror fragments, as well as crystal pendants, pearls and set like a piece from high-jewellery.

Adrien wore a black wool double-breasted tuxedo with grosgrain lapels, worn over a white tuxedo shirt paired with black leather Tabi lace-ups.
DIESEL
Diesel is also pleased to announce the brand’s attendance for the first time ever at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala. Creative Director Glenn Martens attends the 2024 Met Gala on behalf of Diesel, dressing pop icon Kylie Minogue, among others.

The slip dress resembles a simple tank; that essential garment that every woman wears to go to sleep. The tank dress is made of denim devoré rib knit, which has been burned out with Diesel’s signature devoré technique. As if Kylie has been sleeping for hundreds of years and the dress has artfully decayed, dissolving on her body. A work of modern craft, the dress is rendered in 500,000 crystals. The dress required 14 days of work to complete. For accessories, Kylie wore custom Diesel silver sandals with a signature molded Oval D logo heel and a crystal-embroidered denim clutch.

In true Diesel fashion, the look’s distressed detailing and glamorous silhouette combines roughness with drama using the brand’s devoré technique on transparent tulle. Flower printed chiffon is layered on top of a nude tulle which is then devoured. Gradient, hand frayed, embroidered flowers on weightless tulle run from the bodice and sleeves to the train of the dress, creating a fading, cascade effect. The whole gown is composed of 60 meters of tulle and 60 meters of chiffon. The dress took over 20 hours to cut and over 40 hours to construct.

Glenn Martens designed his look from a basic tuxedo reinterpreted with a disintegrating fabric using devoré, one of Diesel’s key techniques, recently shown in Diesel Spring/Summer 2024 runway show. Using a classic tuxedo silhouette in wool with a polyester yarn, the fabric is treated to reveal Damiano’s skin underneath, showing off parts of his body, his tattoo, which add to the look. To complete the look a Diesel leather pair of boots with Damiano David signature under the sole.
MARNI

Global icon Nicki Minaj, who walked the carpet alongside Creative Director Francesco Risso in custom Marni, wears a sculptural hourglass dress crafted from yellow silk duchesse, hand-painted with gold, light green and black accents, and adorned with three-dimensional flowers. Modernizing a ’50s silhouette, a multitude of sculpted flowers, modeled from hand-painted aluminum leaves, stemming from the fabric to create the illusion of a blossoming bouquet. The look is completed with a matching one-of-a-kind Trunkaroo bag along with pointed-toe silk satin pumps and floral-inspired jewelry designed for the occasion. Creative Director Francesco Risso wears a tonal gray suit complete with pointed lace up shoes.

Artist Charli XCX attends the gala wearing a white draped gown crafted from patchworked vintage t-shirts from the 1950s and 1970s. Hand-sewn by fifteen seamstresses at the Marni atelier in Milan, the dress is fully embroidered with rhinestones and glass beads, with a tonal thread dissolving into the fabric. Requiring two-hundred hours of workmanship, the delicate embroidery and finely visible stitches emphasize the brand’s signature “mending”, a staple across Marni collections.

Artist and musician Rita Ora wears an open silhouette composed of a tapestry of floor-length strands of multicolored beads, over a nude bodysuit made of sheer viscose jersey that proudly reveals the human form. Combining Murano glass beads from the 1940s and 1970s with antique crystal beads sourced from across the globe, this special creation has been meticulously handcrafted in Marni’s ateliers in Milan to celebrate the beauty of the body through an intricate interplay of glimmers and refractions. Leather nude sandals complete the look.

Academy Award®-winning writer, director, and actor Taika Waititi attends the gala wearing a head-to-toe soft chocolate brown nappa leather ensemble. The tailored jacket showcases clean, sharp lines, contrasting the soft silhouette of the pleated trousers. This is complemented by a tonal leather shirt, tie and skin-tight gloves. A newly-introduced dress shoe, crafted from one seamless piece of calfskin, adds the final touch to the striking all-leather outfit.
